Research in the US shows that “buy online and pickup in-store” services are increasing in popularity.

Customers like to have the option to eliminate shipping fees. Retailers such as Circuit City and Sears have great success with offering the service.

Personally I think it’s a great idea, especially if customers are unhappy with the shipping costs offered to them. Whereas they may have abandoned the cart before, they could be swayed to choose pick up as an option and you keep the sale.

Retailers would have to weigh up the pros and cons of the logistics of offering a pick-up system of course, such as the extra customer interaction, record keeping and staff time required.
